Mazarrón is located on a large bay open to the Mediterranean Sea and has 35 km of coastline. The city consists of the port and the capital of the municipality which is 5 km from the coast. Since its origin, the name of Mazarrón has been linked to the mining wealth of its mountains, which are abundantly endowed with lead, zinc, silver, iron, alum and red ochre.
If you want to be amazed, the Erosions of Bolnuevo are perfect, they come straight out of a science fiction movie. They are rock formations carved and shaped by water and wind that make up a dreamlike landscape. It is a beautiful place to enjoy the sea and nature that will not leave you indifferent.
The Bay of Mazarrón is one of the best places to see dolphins, sperm whales or whales and you can do it from a period schooner respecting the animals and their habitat. If what you want is to explore the underwater world, Mazarrón is a paradise for divers. Its crystalline waters and biodiversity make it the perfect place for first dives and for professional dives.
In Mazarrón the beaches are perfect during the summer but also during the winter, for children and adults, for sport and music lovers, for naturists… You can enjoy the urban beaches that stretch from Mojón to Bolnuevo.
Right in the city center, on a small hill and surrounded by the most important buildings of the city, you will find the impressive ruins of the Castle of Vélez, a 15th century military fortress built by the Marquises of Fajardo. Thanks to its height, it is a perfect place to have an impressive view of the old town.
If you like walking or cycling, you will be overwhelmed by the visual beauty in the contrasts between the sea and the interior of Mazarrón. There are a total of 35 well-signposted and prepared roads for the practice of these sports that run along the coast, the mountains and virgin areas. If you like photography, we recommend a visit to the local abandoned mines. The abandoned buildings and oxide pools are particularly spectacular.

Mazarrón está situado en una gran bahía abierta al mar Mediterráneo y tiene 35 km de costa. La ciudad está formada por el puerto y la capital del municipio, que se encuentra a 5 km de la costa. Desde su origen, el nombre de Mazarrón ha estado ligado a la riqueza minera de sus montañas, abundantemente dotadas de plomo, zinc, plata, hierro, alumbre y ocre rojo.
Si quiere asombrarse, las Erosiones de Bolnuevo son perfectas, salen directamente de una película de ciencia ficción. Son formaciones rocosas talladas y modeladas por el agua y el viento que conforman un paisaje de ensueño. Es un lugar precioso para disfrutar del mar y de la naturaleza que no te dejará indiferente.
La Bahía de Mazarrón es uno de los mejores lugares para ver delfines, cachalotes o ballenas y puedes hacerlo desde una goleta de época respetando a los animales y su hábitat. Si lo que quieres es explorar el mundo submarino, Mazarrón es un paraíso para los buceadores. Sus aguas cristalinas y su biodiversidad lo convierten en el lugar perfecto para las primeras inmersiones y para las inmersiones profesionales.
En Mazarrón las playas son perfectas durante el verano pero también durante el invierno, para niños y adultos, para los amantes del deporte y la música, para los naturistas… Puedes disfrutar de las playas urbanas que se extienden desde el Mojón hasta Bolnuevo.
En pleno centro de la ciudad, sobre una pequeña colina y rodeado de los edificios más importantes de la ciudad, se encuentran las impresionantes ruinas del Castillo de Vélez, una fortaleza militar del siglo XV construida por los marqueses de Fajardo. Gracias a su altura, es un lugar perfecto para tener una vista impresionante del casco antiguo.
Si le gusta el senderismo o el ciclismo, se sentirá abrumado por la belleza visual en los contrastes entre el mar y el interior de Mazarrón. Hay un total de 35 caminos bien señalizados y preparados para la práctica de estos deportes que discurren por la costa, la montaña y zonas vírgenes. Si le gusta la fotografía, le recomendamos una visita a las minas abandonadas de la localidad. Los edificios abandonados y las piscinas de óxido son especialmente espectaculares.
