Caravaca de la Cruz is a city located in a border enclave between Murcia and Granada. The Iberians, the Romans and the Muslims have successively passed through this city which was built around its Castle.
Caravaca de la Cruz is one of the five cities in the world that celebrates the perpetual Jubilee. The Basilica of Caravaca watches over the Santísima y Vera Cruz, a relic venerated since the 13th century. Las Fuentes del Marqués, which is located a little over two kilometers from the old town of Caravaca, is one of the most beautiful places in the Region of Murcia. The springs of pure water, the beauty of nature and the indisputable charm of the place will surely please you. Here stands an old Templar Tower, which during the Middle Ages was used as a vanguard for the defense against the Muslims and which now houses the Centro de Interpretación de la Naturaleza (Nature Interpretation Center).
Caravaca de la Cruz is full of history, the first remains of the population of Caravaca date back to the Paleolithic. From that time until today, dozens of archaeological sites testify to its past. Among them, the Archaeological Complex of L’Encarnación, where prehistoric, Iberian, Roman and medieval remains are concentrated, is a place not to be missed if you want to know the origins of the city, it is a paradise for “archaeologists”.
Caravaca counts with one of the best sets of religious architecture of the Region of Murcia. A fabulous network of churches, convents and other spaces of prayer. The Church of the Soledad, the Church of El Salvador and the Compañía de Jesús, the Templete (chapel where the Cross is bathed), the Monastery of Santa Clara, the hermitages of Santa Elena and the magnificent Basilica of the Santísima y Vera Cruz are part of the beauties of the region.
Caravaca is the perfect place for hiking or cycling. Caravaca has a good number of short trails, green tourism trails and various pilgrimage routes. The old railroad line that used to connect Caravaca with Murcia has been developed as a Vía Verde (Green Way). A total of 78 km of natural path with 7 hostels to stop and be accommodated.
On the third Sunday of each month takes place the Pilgrim’s Market, the best place to enjoy the crafts and typical products of the area. Moreover, around December 6, a large part of the old town is transformed and many craftsmen go out into the street to show the fruit of their work while demonstrations, tastings and entertainment for young and old follow one another.

Caravaca de la Cruz es una de las cinco ciudades del mundo que celebra el Jubileo perpetuo. La Basílica de Caravaca vela por la Santísima y Vera Cruz, una reliquia venerada desde el siglo XIII. Es un lugar mágico al que llegan viajeros de todo el mundo y cuyo ambiente merece la pena experimentar al menos una vez en la vida.
Si le gustan las fiestas, hay fechas y lugares que no debe perderse bajo ningún concepto. Es el caso de las fiestas patronales de Caravaca de la Cruz, que se celebran del 1 al 5 de mayo y están declaradas de interés turístico internacional. Los dos eventos más destacados son los Moros y Cristianos y los Caballos del Vino. Estas espectaculares fiestas atraen cada año a miles de personas.
Las Fuentes del Marqués, que se encuentra a poco más de dos kilómetros del casco antiguo de Caravaca, es uno de los lugares más bellos de la Región de Murcia. Los manantiales de agua pura, la belleza de la naturaleza y el indiscutible encanto del lugar seguro que le gustarán. Aquí se levanta una antigua Torre Templaria, que durante la Edad Media sirvió de vanguardia para la defensa contra los musulmanes y que ahora alberga el Centro de Interpretación de la Naturaleza.
Caravaca de la Cruz está llena de historia, los primeros restos de la población de Caravaca se remontan al Paleolítico. Desde entonces hasta hoy, decenas de yacimientos arqueológicos dan fe de su pasado. Entre ellos, el Complejo Arqueológico de L’Encarnación, donde se concentran restos prehistóricos, ibéricos, romanos y medievales, es un lugar que no debe perderse si quiere conocer los orígenes de la ciudad, es un paraíso para los “arqueólogos”.
Caravaca cuenta con uno de los mejores conjuntos de arquitectura religiosa de la Región de Murcia. Una fabulosa red de iglesias, conventos y otros espacios de oración. La Iglesia de la Soledad, la Iglesia del Salvador y la Compañía de Jesús, el Templete (capilla donde se baña la Cruz), el Monasterio de Santa Clara, las ermitas de Santa Elena y la magnífica Basílica de la Santísima y Vera Cruz forman parte de las bellezas de la región.
Caravaca es el lugar perfecto para practicar senderismo o ciclismo. Caravaca cuenta con un buen número de senderos cortos, rutas de turismo verde y varias rutas de peregrinación. La antigua línea de ferrocarril que unía Caravaca con Murcia ha sido acondicionada como Vía Verde. Un total de 78 km de camino natural con 7 albergues para parar y alojarse.
El tercer domingo de cada mes tiene lugar el Mercado del Peregrino, el mejor lugar para disfrutar de la artesanía y los productos típicos de la zona. Además, en torno al 6 de diciembre, gran parte del casco antiguo se transforma y muchos artesanos salen a la calle para mostrar el fruto de su trabajo mientras se suceden las demostraciones, degustaciones y animaciones para grandes y pequeños.
