Travelling to Madrid does not just mean visiting the city streets, admiring the architectural beauties and enjoying the joyful atmosphere of the city: to fully know the city and immerse yourself in its culture you should definitely try the typical dishes of Madrid cuisine.
Being a tourist and cultural center of Spain, Madrid offers a wide selection of tasty dishes from all regions of the country in addition to those typical of its tradition. The cuisine of Madrid presents an incredible variety of products and flavors able to satisfy the tastes of all lovers of good food.
In addition to this, Madrid’s restaurants are surprisingly inexpensive compared to northern Spanish standards. Now we just have to go and discover the most tasty and famous dishes of the city!
DISHES OF TRADITION
Cocido Madrileño: this particular and substantial dish consists of vegetables, various cut of pork meat and chickpeas all cooked and served together. Following the tradition, this meal should be served in two portions: before the one with soup and then the meat with vegetables.
Callos a la Madrileña: an hearty dish made from pig snout and tribe that differs from other versions from different part of the Country because it does not contain chickpeas or choricero peppers. This particular dish has been made in Madrid since 1560 and sometimes it is also served with tomatoes, chorizo and paprika. They are eaten with bread in order to savor the sauce too!
Bocadillo de Calamares: perfect for enjoying a good drink or a Beer, these Fried and crunchy squid rings are usually served on a crusty roll. If you are a fan of street-food you can’t lose the opportunity to taste one of the most famous dish of Madrid’s street-food tradition!
Cochinillo Asado: do you think that you are a meat lover? If your answer is “yes”, then this dish is the perfect one for you! In fact, it is basically a roast suckling pig typical of the region. It is actually quite difficult to do properly due to its long preparation.
SWEETS OF TRADITION
Chocolate with Churros: It is true that churros can be found all over Spain, but you will never taste churros as good as the ones made in Madrid! They are a perfect snack at any time of the day; they are made from a mixture of water, flour, olive oil and salt. Following the tradition, the best way to eat them is with a cup of hot chocolate!
Torrijas: since we are still close to Easter, here is a typical Madrid dish that is prepared especially in this festive period. They are prepared all over Spain and they are a sweet made of bread slices soaked in egg, milk or wine and then fried. In Madrid, They are served with a generous amount of honey poured over them!

Además de esto, los restaurantes de Madrid son sorprendentemente baratos en comparación con los estándares del norte de España. Ahora sólo tenemos que ir y descubrir los platos más sabrosos y famosos de la ciudad!
PLATOS DE LA TRADICIÓN
Cocido Madrileño: este plato particular consiste en verduras, varios cortes de carne de cerdo y garbanzos todos cocinados y servidos juntos. Siguiendo la tradición, esta comida se debe servir en dos porciones: antes de la de sopa y luego la de verduras.
Callos a la Madrileña: un plato abundante hecho de hocico de cerdo y tribu que se diferencia de otras versiones de diferentes partes del país, ya que no contiene garbanzos o chiles choriceros. Este plato particular se elabora en Madrid desde 1560 y a veces también se sirve con tomates, chorizo y pimentón. Se comen con pan para saborear la salsa también!
Bocadillo de Calamares: perfectos para disfrutar de una buena bebida o una cerveza, estos anillos de calamares fritos se sirven generalmente en un rollo crujiente. Si eres un fan de la comida callejera, ¡no puedes perder la oportunidad de probar uno de los platos más famosos de la tradición callejera madrileña!
Cochinillo Asado: ¿Crees que eres un amante de la carne? Si tu respuesta es “sí”, entonces este plato es perfecto para ti. De hecho, es básicamente un cochinillo asado típico de la región. En realidad es bastante difícil de hacer correctamente debido a su larga preparación.
DULCES DE LA TRADICIÓN
Chocolate con Churros: Es cierto que los churros se pueden encontrar por toda España, ¡pero nunca probarás los churros tan buenos como los que se hacen en Madrid! Son un snack perfecto a cualquier hora del día; se elaboran a partir de una mezcla de agua, harina, aceite de oliva y sal. Torrijas: ya que todavía estamos cerca de Semana Santa, aquí está un plato típico de Madrid que se prepara especialmente en este período festivo. Se preparan por toda España y son un dulce hecho de rebanadas de pan remojadas en huevo, leche o vino y luego fritas. En Madrid, se sirven con una generosa cantidad de miel derramada sobre ellos!
