Montanejos is an amazing place to spend your weekend. Wonderful landscapes starting from the views of the forests and rocks to the caves and rivers. There you can choose plenty of activities: hike, walk, swim, go to do water sports like kayaking or rafting or you can simply relax on the rocky beach. In this case everyone can find his/her favorite spot there.
Montanejos es un lugar increíble para pasar el fin de semana. Maravillosos paisajes que van desde las vistas de los bosques y las rocas hasta las cuevas y los ríos. Allí puedes elegir un montón de actividades: hacer senderismo, pasear, nadar, practicar deportes acuáticos como el kayak o el rafting o simplemente relajarte en la playa rocosa. En este caso, todo el mundo puede encontrar allí su lugar favorito.
One of the most impressive things you can see there is a crystal clear mountain pond la Fuente de los Baños surrounded by the rocks which is definitely not only refreshing, but also gorgeous to take a swim in! And of course to make a photoshoot 😀 The fact that the water is at constant temperature of 25ºC all year round and is surrounded by a beautiful nature makes Montanejos one of the most popular places to visit in Spain or some people even dare to call it “heaven”. We also heard a legend that this water with its minerals helps to preserve one’s beauty, so the place was visited by queens or noble people that wanted to take a bath in order to stay young and beautiful.
Una de las cosas más impresionantes que se pueden ver allí es el estanque de montaña de aguas cristalinas de la Fuente de los Baños, rodeado por las rocas, que no sólo es refrescante, sino también precioso para darse un baño. Y por supuesto para hacer una sesión de fotos 😀 El hecho de que el agua esté a una temperatura constante de 25ºC durante todo el año y esté rodeada de una hermosa naturaleza hace que Montanejos sea uno de los lugares más populares para visitar en España o que algunos se atrevan incluso a llamarlo “cielo”. También se cuenta la leyenda de que esta agua con sus minerales ayuda a conservar la belleza, por lo que el lugar era visitado por reinas o gente noble que quería darse un baño para mantenerse joven y bella.
The cost of entering the Banjos area was free before covid-19, but nowadays you have to pay €3 per person (€1.5 for children and people over 65 years old). It is the best to reserve it beforehand! The hike nearby of Sendero Familiar is about 5 km long, so you can enjoy the nature of the area while hiking, where you can cross artificial waterfalls and some caves, but it is worth to mention that the hiking activities should be done in autumn or spring time because of the colder weather. A pretty big distance of the route is not covered by trees, so hikers are on the direct sun and during the summer it can be quite dangerous and really tiring.

El coste de la entrada a la zona de los Banjos era gratuito antes del covid-19, pero hoy en día hay que pagar 3 euros por persona (1,5 euros para niños y mayores de 65 años). Lo mejor es reservar con antelación. La ruta de senderismo cercana a Sendero Familiar es de unos 5 km, por lo que se puede disfrutar de la naturaleza de la zona mientras se practica el senderismo, donde se pueden cruzar cascadas artificiales y algunas cuevas, pero cabe mencionar que las actividades de senderismo deben realizarse en otoño o primavera debido al clima más frío. Una distancia bastante grande de la ruta no está cubierta por árboles, por lo que los excursionistas están expuestos al sol directo y durante el verano puede ser bastante peligroso y realmente agotador.
